Talent Tour – Procedure and Repertoire

Find out more about the procedure and repertoire of our Talent Tour 2020.

The Talent Tour 2020 for the Baltic Sea Philharmonic will be held in a single solo round in St. Petersburg and in two rounds in Berlin – an individual pre-audition and an audition as a joint rehearsal with the entire orchestra. Come and play your favourite piece for us and experience a full orchestra rehearsal under the baton of Kristjan Järvi.

First round: solo piece of your choice (both Talent Days)

The repertoire for the first round is a solo piece of your own choice that is 5 to 10 minutes long. We won’t provide a pianist; however, accompanied pieces or concerto movements can be performed solo.

In addition, we will request a short excerpt from our tour repertoire (see below), which will be sent out with the invitations.

Applicants will audition individually in front of a panel of Baltic Sea Philharmonic principal musicians and Founding Conductor and Music Director Kristjan Järvi.

Second round: joint orchestra rehearsal (Berlin)

Musicians who successfully complete the first round will be invited to play in a joint orchestra rehearsal for the Baltic Sea Philharmonic’s ‘Midnight Sun’ tour in June 2020 with the following repertoire. Please note that the Talent Day in St. Petersburg will be first-round auditions only.

  • Järvi, ‘Aurora’
  • Pärt, ‘Fratres’
  • Richter, ‘Dona Nobis Pacem 2’
  • Rautavaara, ‘Cantus Arcticus’
  • I. Tchaikovsky, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ – Selections
  • Stravinsky, ‘The Firebird Suite’ – Selections
  • Vasks, ‘Lonely Angel’

The Baltic Sea Philharmonic Talent Tour 2020 will be held as open auditions. All interested musicians are therefore invited to listen to the first-round auditions and joint orchestra rehearsals, even if they themselves are not auditioning.
